Math Talk: Applications of the Singular Value Decomposition of Matrices w/ Dr. Arias

Math Club invites you to Applications of the Singular Value Decomposition of Matrices by Dr. Alvaro Arias. This Math Talk is about when mathematicians work in applied areas such as statistics, data science, financial analysis, or machine learning, for example, they use many techniques from linear algebra. In this talk, we will talk about the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). This is one of the most important linear algebra techniques that is used to compress data, explore and visualize data, make predictions, recommend movies, etc. After stating the result and the intuition of the SVD, we will illustrate several applications using open-source software (Jupyter Notebooks and perhaps R) and real data.
