Samosa Friday with Student Employment

Details
Are you curious about jobs on-campus or want to lock in your summer/fall work plans early? Come by the Burwell Center patio any time between 10 am and noon on April 28th to enjoy delicious veggie Burmese samosas and chat with on-campus employers! Join the Office of Student Employment and the 4D Initiative for a morning of snacks and jobs.
You don’t need to bring (or have) a resume or a suit or anything, just yourself. In addition to tasty crispy goodies, we’ll also have current student employees who can be your buddy for the day and give you an introduction to their favorite employers on-campus. Staff from ISSS and Financial Aid will even be there to support international students and students with questions about work-study awards.
This event is open to all students who are eligible to work on-campus in the summer or fall 2023! This means you, probably!:
- Undergraduates and graduates
- Domestic and international students
- Incoming students starting in summer or fall quarter
- Students with and without work-study awards
Employers will include:
- Career & Professional Development
- Daniels College of Business
- Learning Effectiveness Program
- Innovation Labs
- Fisher Early Learning Center
- Writing Center
- Lamont School of Music
- Newman Center
- Office of International Education
- Center for Sustainability
- Recreation
- Athletics
- Center for World Languages & Cultures
FAQ
1. Do I have to eat samosas?
- Nope! They’re just a nice added bonus for whoever wants them.
2. Am I eligible to work on campus?
- Probably! Anyone who has work authorization in the U.S. can probably work on-campus. Unfortunately, this would not be true if you don’t have work authorization, like if you’re undocumented. Students with DACA who have employment authorization documents are eligible though! If you’re an international student and you’re not sure about your eligibility, check in with ISSS at isss@du.edu.
3. Can I really get a job, though? Would I be qualified?
- I mean, it depends on the job, but probably! Some jobs will be specifically looking for undergrads or graduate students, or for students with work-study awards. But overall, most jobs on campus are looking for students who can articulate the value of their previous experience, whether or not you’ve had a formal job before. If they ask for communication skills, have you communicated as a volunteer? If they ask for teamwork, have you done a group project? Don’t count yourself out!
If you have any other questions, send me a note at stuemp@du.edu. See you there!
