On January 3, 2026, the United States attacked Venezuela, captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, and killed a reported 80 people. Maduro has been charged with crimes in the United States, and the Trump administration promises to govern Venezuela until a “safe, proper and judicious transition” occurs.

How do we understand these events? What happens next?

Join the Latin America Center for a discussion and Q&A with Dr. Francisco R. Rodríguez, Faculty Affiliate at the Scrivner Institute and Sie Center at the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs. This discussion will be moderated by Professor Aaron Schneider. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome!
