This course is designed to help students develop practical skills and confidence to enhance their personal safety. Participants will learn strategies to reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim by increasing situational awareness, recognizing potential threats, and making informed safety decisions in everyday environments.

The course covers basic self-defense principles, including verbal de-escalation, boundary setting, and simple defensive tactics that can be used to create opportunities to get to safety. Students will also receive instruction on the proper use of the Pro Tek Key as a personal safety tool and discuss considerations for its effective and responsible use.

In addition, participants will become familiar with campus safety resources available at the University of Denver, including emergency response options, reporting resources, the DU Safe app, safe transportation programs, and support services. The goal of this class is to empower students with knowledge, awareness, and practical skills that can help them stay safe both on and off campus.

Attendee should expect a minimal amount of physical activity, including punching and using verbal techniques to create distance and/or attract attention. No experience necessary. All fitness and ability levels are welcome.
