4D Innovations Cohort: Enhancing the Graduate Student Experience

Laura Perille, PhD + Innovations Cohort

Audience: graduate students, faculty, staff

How might we take innovative, collaborative, and cross-functional approaches to enhancing the 4D graduate student experience? This question animated the work of the 4D Innovations Cohort, a group of faculty, staff, and graduate students from across the university who went through a design-thinking process to develop prototypes and models for implementation. During this session, the cohort participants will "pitch" their prototypes to attendees, generating awareness and buy-in and advancing discussions about how to better serve our graduate students and provide them with a meaningful relationship-rich 4D Experience.

Lighting the Fire! S'more 4D Reflections with Purpose

Brie Jutte

Audience: all students, faculty, staff

During First Ascent at the Kennedy Mountain Campus, first year and transfer students get to choose their own adventure and participate in various activities. One of those activities is a campfire favorite—s’mores! Join us to learn more about the reflection prompt led by 4D Peer Mentors to help “light the fire” of reflection among our students to think about their four dimensional experience while at DU. New Student & Family Programs will share the strengths and challenges of the current program, talk about the future goals, and ask participants to do their own reflection.

Promoting Healthy Masculinities Through the Lens of 4D

Justin Stoeckle

Audience: all students, faculty, staff

Ridged gender roles and hegemonic masculinity has shaped the way that our students understand themselves within society. Research informs us that socially constructed gender norms that socialize men to value hierarchy, aggression, and emotional suppression may be a risk factor for mental health challenges, interpersonal violence, and more. For students to contribute to the public good, they need to critically think about how restrictive masculinity has shaped their worldview and work towards a more liberated understanding of masculinity. In this session, we will have a guided conversation about how to promote healthy masculinities as a part of the 4D Experience.
