Empowering Learners Through Grading For Equity
Susan Hojnacki - Teaching Assistant Professor of German, Center for World Languages & Cultures | Kate Rice - Teaching Assistant Professor/ First-Year French Coordinator, Center for World Languages & Cultures
Track: Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, Faculty
Grades can be the biggest source of stress for both learners and instructors. They can also be one of the places where bias rears its ugly head. What if grades only reflected what students knew and were able to do rather than grading their attendance and work habits? Grading for Equity (Feldman, 2024) is a framework that empowers learners to take control of their own process and helps eliminate bias. Come learn about GFE and reflect on your own values around grading.

Morgridge’s Student Experience: Meaningful Mentoring, Community Connectedness, & Equity-centered Engagement
Annie Ngo - Manager, Academic and Student Affairs, Morgridge College of Education | Dr. Marc Guerrero, Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs at Morgridge College of Education
Track: Graduate Students, Staff, Faculty
The Morgridge College of Education utilized 4D and three fundamental elements to design and launch our new signature student experience as a way to translate what has often felt undergraduate focused to our graduate student population. Morgridge has coalesced around “M.C.E.” meaning “Meaningful Mentoring, Community Connectedness, and Equity-centered Engagement.” In this session, we discuss the development of M.C.E., connection to restructuring academic and student services to a centralized MASA unit, and initial reflections on preliminary outcomes. Participants will also be able to reflect upon 4D for graduate students and compare it to their own contexts.
