Mission
Divest DU is a student activist organization mobilizing to demand that the university divest all of its endowment funds from the fossil fuel industry, with the goal of creating a more ethical, sustainable, and responsible investment portfolio. Divest DU organizes educational and community-focused campaigns, events, and outreach to promote divestment from the fossil fuel industry and protect students’ futures in the midst of climate breakdown. In our work, we recognize the intersection between climate justice, racial justice, and social justice more broadly and are committed to centering equity in our work. We recognize that the impacts from climate change are not felt equally across communities, and that marginalized groups, in particular, communities of color and working-class folks, are often faced with the harshest consequences of climate change. Any and all programming hosted or promoted by Divest DU will center a lens of social justice and collective liberation. Through our grassroots activism, we aim to hold the University of Denver accountable to its vision of "a private university dedicated to the public good" through a climate justice framework. Promoting both education about climate justice and pathways of direct action is the focus of Divest DU as a student organization. As the leaders of Divest DU, we commit to being student leaders of environmental justice at the University of Denver.
