Join Health Promotion and our partners at any of our events hosted in honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month this September! Learn how to take care of yourself and others who may be struggling. See individual event details below:

Light in the Darkness: Drop by our table and take a pause to identify your light in the darkness. What is something that gives you hope when other things look bleak? Reflecting on those parts of our life can not only help us be happier but also be more resilient when we are going through hard times. Your contribution to our display may inspire others and perhaps you will walk away with some strategies as well. All participants will be welcomed to grab some glow in the dark swag to rep afterwards.

Mental Health Screenings: Complete a quick checkup from the neck up. Take a quick digital screener that will identify your levels of distress, anxiety, depression, and more. Therapists from the Health and Counseling Center will be on site to review your results, answer questions, or even get you scheduled for a therapy session. All participants who complete a screening will be entered into a drawing for a DU hat or t-shirt.

Say Suicide for a Sweet Treat: Stop by this table to learn how to ask someone whether they are having thoughts of ending their life. Once you show that you can ask the question, you'll get to walk away with a sweet treat (popsicles if weather is warm or cocoa if it is cold).

Mental Health First Aid: Become certified to support someone experiencing an early, worsening, or crisis mental health challenge. This course is free of charge to all DU community members and covers topics ranging from stigma and mental illness to preventing suicide, responding to overdose, and aiding someone experiencing a psychotic episode. For more information about the Mental Health First Aid program at DU, check out https://studentaffairs.du.edu/mhfa. and email mhfa@du.edu directly to register.

Suicide Prevention Training: Prepare yourself to save a life. Effectively all of us will at some point know someone who has been thinking of ending their life, but many of us will not know how to identify it and not feel prepared to respond. This training covers how to compassionately and effectively intervene and support anyone thinking of ending their life. This training also fulfills the RSO Harm Reduction requirement.

Stop Suicide Mini Fair: Health Promotion has invited critical community partners to campus to share with you resources and strategies you can utilize when you are supporting someone in distress or when you yourself are feeling low on options. Participants that engage with every table will be entered to win one of several excellent prizes.
