Talk Overview:
How do companion animal relationships contribute to our scientific understanding of what goes right in the lives of youth? Dr. Mueller will discuss how her research program takes a developmental science perspective to understanding the role of human-animal interactions in promoting positive youth development and optimizing relationships between people and the animals that share our lives.
Speaker Information:
Dr. Megan Mueller is an Associate Professor of human-animal interaction at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University where she directs the Pets and Well-Being Lab and teaches in the M.S. in Animals and Public Policy program at the Center for Animals and Public Policy. Dr. Mueller is a developmental psychologist, and her research program focuses on using innovative research methods to assess the role of companion animals in adolescent development, with a focus on positive youth development and teenagers experiencing social anxiety. Dr. Mueller currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Anthrozoology, as well as on the Pet Partners Human-Animal Bond Advisory Board.
