College can be a stressful time, whether you're a first-time DU student or returning to campus. This webinar provides tips and tricks for stress management so that you have a successful academic year. Topics will include: How to identify signs of stress, research-supported stress management techniques, effective communication with course instructors, peers, and family, and campus resources to support your academic success and well-being.

All new students will meet at the Peter Barton Lacrosse field to pick up their DEN-VER tshirts and take the traditional DU Class photo! After taking the photo students will meet in their orientation groups for a final time to process into the Ritchie Cent

New Student Convocation is a traditional welcome event for the incoming fall class, and this year, we are excited to welcome last year's class back to this event as well. Students will hear from the Chancellor, Provost, Director of Admissions, and USG Presidents!

First year students will rejoin their FSEM professors for a Destinations trip with their First Year Seminar class.

The 10-week quarter goes by quickly! Learn to plan ahead so you don't fall behind! Student Success Coaches from the Office of Academic Advising will help you develop time management and organization strategies to succeed at DU. You will learn to pull information from course syllabi to create weekly and daily schedules, prioritize tasks, and manage to-do lists.

Join the Cultural Center for our weekly Trans Lunch Group. This non-therapeutic facilitated social group meets weekly for lunch in the Pride Lounge. Grab your lunch in a take out container and meet us on the 3rd floor. No meal plan, no problem--we will have a meal pass for you. All trans, enby, gender expansive and questioning DU community members are welcome--this group is for all!

First Time, First Year students will attend a meeting of your First Year Seminar (FSEM) Class. You will meet your FSEM professor, classmates, and participate in activities and discussions that will both welcome and transition you into the academic community at the University of Denver.

New Era Colorado is a local nonprofit with a simple idea: democracy works better when more people show up. We work to get young people engaged in what's going on in Colorado through voter registration, issue advocacy, and year-round civic engagement. We have been at DU for years and are well known for our knowledgeable staff and fun pins! Stop by their table outside the Community Commons to get registered to vote in Colorado so you can make your voice heard throughout your years at the Univeristy of Denver.

This will be a quick session with some time to connect with other participants, but if you're interested in a deeper dive into the skills and practice, we will share some ways to stay connected beyond orientation! Join us if you are interested and want to engage!

In the midst of balancing academics, work, family and friends, how can you be mindful when making difficult decisions? How might mindful decision making strengthen your capacity for leadership? Develop a future-oriented approach and the ability to consider options in a productive, creative way.

DU has a series of values that include diversity, equity, and inclusion. These values ground DU's motto - A great private university for the public good. In our attendance to that motto, this session aims to aid participants in defining and conceptualizing social justice terminology and frameworks.

Many people think of things like recycling, gardening, or riding a bike when they hear the word "sustainability." But did you know that a key part of a sustainable future is creating justice and equity for those who have been disproportionately affected by the effects of climate change? Come to this session to get an introduction to the intersection of social justice issues and sustainability, and leave with a new point of view, action items, and a more holistic view of how we approach sustainability at the University of Denver.

Gabby Gutierrez-Reed is a Denver based stand up comedian and actor who has been in the High Plains Comedy Festival, Beast Village Comedy Festival, Longmont Laughfest, Boulder Comedy Festival, Jokechella and 50 First Jokes. She was recently featured in a collection of Wingstop training videos. Things are looking up!
BK Sharad is an up-and-coming comedian from the mean streets of Boulder, Colorado. You of course know him from his work as Jay Chandrasekhar's body double in an as-of-yet unaired TV Pilot, but he is also making a name for himself in standup. His positive outlook shines through his jokes about the world and his experiences in it as a former emo, hockey playing, first generation, Indian millennial.
Miriam Moreno, once described as a "semi goth depressed hipster Latina" Miriam brings light to very dark topics. She can be seen all over Denver as well as on her IG sketch channel SweetnothingsTV.
Hannah Jones is a stand up comedian, writer, and improvisor based in Denver, Colorado. After being homeschooled in a religious co-op, her irreverent takes on sex, religion, and politics are as original as they are deeply uncomfortable for her mother to hear. Currently, you can find her performing weekly on the improv team Barkley and monthly at her show Uncorked, and listen to her podcast Chad and the Pink-Haired Communist.

Join the student run DU EMS (Emergency Medical Services) to learn CPR and medical emergency skills. All students who participate in this session will receive a hands only CPR certification as well as training in responding to a medical emergency. A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, often while at home, at work or at play. And the victim could be someone you know and love. DU EMS believes anyone can learn the simple steps to save a life, and everyone should. Every minute CPR is delayed, a victim's chance of survival DECREASES BY 10%. Immediate CPR from someone nearby can double—even triple—their chance of survival. This class teaches the basics of CPR and other medical emergencies, preparing you to be an active bystander in an emergency situation at DU or anywhere else.

The term "Fraternity and Sorority Life" conjures up images of raging parties, keg stands, and other nonsense. What if I told you FSL is more than what you see on social media and on TV? Let me tell you about what FSL is really all about and how it will benefit you for years to come.

Come check out the Pride Lounge, home to DU's LGBTQ+ community!  Meet new friends and the Cultural Center staff, learn about campus resources and pick up some awesome pride swag to decorate your room and backpack.  Everyone is welcome!

About our comics:

Salma Zaky
Originally from the Bay Area, Salma Zaky moved to Los Angeles to attend college at UCLA, where she was lucky enough to perform alongside stellar comedians including Maria Bamford, Ali Wong, Nikki Glaser, and Nicole Byer. Salma has been featured in Boston's Women in Comedy Festival in 2017, SF Sketchfest in 2019, and Floodwater Comedy Festival and Aspen Laugh Festival in 2020. She now resides in Denver, Colorado for a better quality of life and air.

Edward Bell
Edward Bell is a stand up comedian based out of Denver, CO. He has written for the Hard Times. He hosts the weekly podcast OK Ringo. He is part of the sketch comedy group Not Made for TV. He used to live in a van, but now he doesn't. There were too many complaints.

Jeremiah Chinggee Chinegwu
Jeremiah is a self proclaimed comedy nomad. Having served in the United States Navy he has been able to perform his outstanding brand of comedy all across the country opening for the likes of Tom Green and Nick Thune. Between stand up and his YouTube page "THE JEREMIAH PROJECT" odds are you're never too far away to hear his unique takes on race, relationships and pop culture.

Lee Robinson
Lee Robinson is a Denver based stand-up comedian, writer and fun-loving human confetti cannon. Lee's comedic style is playful with a dose of biting wit, and they talk about everything from queer dating to her unique upbringing in a small Missouri town. Lee loves bringing incredible and wide-ranging comedic voices to the stage through her weekly stand-up comedy show, Playing Favorites, at Rise Comedy. They also host and produce DYKETOPIA, a Queer Comedy Experience, celebrating queer comedy, drag, and outlandishly extra games.

First Time, First Year students will attend a meeting of your First Year Seminar (FSEM) Class. You will meet your FSEM professor, classmates, and participate in activities and discussions that will both welcome and transition you into the academic community at the University of Denver.

Declared and prospective majors in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences will have a chance to meet with a faculty representative to learn about the major and address any questions they may have about schedules and planning. These sessions are informal, so students should feel free to explore multiple majors by stopping in at multiple sessions. Students who are interested in more than one major are welcome to attend all relevant sessions; if you are thinking of one of the more highly structured majors, such as business, engineering, or the sciences, you should attend those sessions first.

The session will begin with a welcome from the Dean, school leadership, and department chairs. Then students will have an opportunity to ask any advising questions you may have. There will also be current students on hand for a Q&A session. 

Students will engage with an advisor in Daniels to learn about general business requirements and take a tour to check out the three buildings of Daniels College of Business and learn relevant information. Additionally, there will be time for students to mingle with other business students and meet the Dean of Daniels College of Business.

The Williams Carillon contains 65 bronze bells, which qualifies as a grand carillon. The largest of these bells weighs six tons. The total weight of the carillon is 64,900 pounds. The carillon, located at the Ritchie Center, is played from a keyboard with wooden manual and pedal keys in a playing cabin situated just below the bells. The playing action is entirely mechanical, allowing for musical expression through variation of touch. The carillon provides music for major University events and community concerts. For all who are in listening distance, the artistry of DU Carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens is a distinct pleasure.

Students should enter the Richie Center on the west side of the building, just under the tower and take the elevator on the left of the concourse to the 4th floor. You will meet in the Gottesfeld Room to begin the tour.

These tours begin inside the Gottesfeld Room which is inside the Ritchie Center sports complex on the 4th floor. These are the best directions to follow that will take you right to the room.

To take the stairs (if you're coming from Halls and Towers, this is closest)
Go up the stairway on the west side of the Ritchie Center and enter the doors to the main concourse. There is an elevator immediately to your left. Choose the 4th floor. On the 4th floor, exit the elevator, go around the desk and take the hallway on your right. The double doors in front of you lead into the Gottesfeld Room.

There is a brick walkway leading to the Coors Fitness Center from Asbury Ave. If you enter the main doors to the Ritchie Center right next to the fitness center, this will take you up the ramp to the main concourse. The elevator is located just inside the main concourse doors. Take that elevator up to the 4th floor. On the 4th floor, exit the elevator, go around the desk and take the hallway on your right. The double doors in front of you lead into the Gottesfeld Room.

We do not have a pre-med or pre-health major and that is intentional; pre-health advising is for students majoring in any discipline. Tracy Gray has spent the last 10 years performing all over the country for colleges, high schools and corporations. Her unique high energy shows are all one of a kind. Being one of only a few female performers, Tracy is a master at fostering a safe environment for volunteers to be their most creative. Attendees leave her show saying things like "I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!" and "I can't believe how great I feel".

One of the hallmarks of a successful transition from high school to university life is planning, another is knowing about the resources available to help your success. For around 20% of incoming first-year students this means knowing how to use or implement disability accommodations approved through the Disability Services Program (DSP).

Differences between accommodations in high school and college, including changing roles of students, parents, the DSP and University.
How to inform your instructors about your accommodations.
