So you're interested in being involved in the Undergraduate Student Government!

If you want to run for office and participate in student democracy, this is the place for you! Learn how to become a candidate below and the timeline for the Spring 2026 elections.

Students will be elected to serve for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Timeline for Spring 2026 Elections

April 6th

Campaign Launch & Candidate Agreement/Election Quiz Available

All candidates will be required to get 100% on the Election Guide Quiz, prior to initializing their campaign. This quiz will cover all the deadlines, rules, and expectations associated with the Spring 2026 Election. Submit the candidate platform before April 24th to qualify for the ballot.

Candidates may begin campaigning following completion of the Election Guide Quiz, but not before it. Campaigning is defined as any public announcement of intention to run for a position on social media, in print, or by word of mouth.

April 24th |11:59pm

Ballot Qualification Deadline

By this deadline, candidates must submit their candidate platform and agreement, and have received 100% on the election guide quiz to meet ballot eligibility.

USG Advisor will also run grade/university standing checks on all candidates. Failure to turn in required documents or clear grade/university standing check will result in a candidate not qualifying for the ballot, making them unelectable.

May 4th | 8am

Voting Opens

Voting will open via an email sent to all students at their university email addresses. Students will be able to submit a Qualtrics Form and must submit on their own behalf.

May 10th | 11:59pm

Voting Closes/ Candidate Receipts Due

At this point the ballot will automatically close, and no more votes will be considered.

Candidates must submit all receipts to usgelections@du.edu

May 19th | 6pm

New Member Swear In

New members will begin sworn in by the USG President at the beginning of the Week 8 meeting.

Available Positions & Constituencies

The number in parentheses indicates how many from each position are elected.

President & Vice-President Ticket

Representing all of the undergraduate student body and serving as the leaders of the Undergraduate Student Government in its entirety. Candidates must be full-time enrolled students for the 2026-2027 academic year and have a combined 20 weeks of experience in USG to be eligible.

  • President & Vice President (1 joint ticket)

Class & Resident Senator Seats

Representing all students in a certain class or residential demographic and focusing on issues that have to do with student life. Candidates must be an enrolled member of the constituency they wish to run for by September 31st, 2026. Individuals who identify with one class but are considered another class by credits should contact the elections commission.

  • Sophomore Senator (3)
  • Junior Senator (3)
  • Senior Senator (3)
  • On Campus Senator (2)
  • Off Campus Senator (2)

Academic Senator Seats

Representing all the students in a certain college and focusing on issues that have to do with academic life. Candidates must be a registered major within the college that they wish to run for.

  • Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Senator (3)
  • Lamont School of Music Senator (1)
    • BM Majors, BA in Music Majors, and Secondary Music Majors may run and vote for this seat.
  • Engineering and Computer Sciences Senator (1)
  • Daniels College of Business Senator (2)
  • Fritz Knoebel School of Hospitality Management Senator (1)
  • Josef Korbel School of International Studies Senator (1)
  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics Senator (2)

Identity/Experience Based Seats

Representing issues related to the unique group or experience that they are elected to represent.

  • Diversity and Inclusive Equity Senator (1)
    • Must prove a past executive board position in a Student Affinity Group at either DU or a different College or University.
  • International Students Senator (1)
    • Must meet the University definition of an international student.
  • Study Abroad Senator (1)
    • Must be going abroad in the fall of 2026. They will be excused from Senate meetings but will advocate for issues important to this role while out of the country, and resume in-person upon return.
  • First Gen Senator (1)
    • Must be (as defined by FIRST@DU) a student whose parent(s) does not have a bachelor’s degree.
  • KMC & Recreation Senator (1)
    • Must be a member of a club sport, alpine club, or be or have been student staff at the Ritchie Center or KMC.
