Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards

In order to support and celebrate what our community is doing, we host a yearly awards opportunities. Awards titles and information are below. If you would like to sponsor an award, please contact the Fraternity and Sorority Life at christopher.miofsky@du.edu or pia.denby@du.edu.

Award submissions are due April 25, 2024 at 12:00pm (Noon).

  • Outstanding Harm Prevention and Reduction Initiatives (Chapter Award)

    This award is given to a chapter that provides outstanding educational opportunities for its members on risk management topics, has processes for holding members accountable by utilizing sound decision making related to harm reduction, and can articulate a strong plan on keeping members and guests safe in a variety of situations.

  • Excellence in Intake/Recruitment (Chapter Award)

    This award is given to a chapter that exemplifies values-congruent recruiting efforts, an intentional and reasonable plan for growth, and a development plan for their incoming members which includes expectations of members, organizational history, and the development of success skills.

  • Outstanding New Member Education Program & Retention (Chapter Award)

  • Excellence in Chapter PR and Marketing (Chapter Award)

  • Outstanding Community Engagement/Philanthropy Initiative (Chapter Award)

    This award is given to chapters that show passion and dedication towards philanthropy and educates its members and the larger community on the importance of their philanthropy. is awarded to chapters that understand the importance of service and encourages engagement and leadership in the larger university community.

  • Outstanding Academic Achievement Initiative (Chapter Award)

  • Inclusive Excellence Program or Educational Initiative (Chapter Award)

    This award is given to a chapter that has an outstanding understanding of Inclusive Excellence in relation to its chapter and the community and embeds the practice of inclusive excellence in every level, aspect, and effort of its community.

  • New Member or Neo of the Year (Individual Award)

    Our New Members and Neos are the most recent additions to our chapters and the next group of leaders ready to grow our organizations. As we've welcomed them into our chapters and taught them our history, values, and traditions, these nominees have stood out for the way they display leadership, connection, resilience, and navigate challenge and difference. They represent the values of our chapters and FSL community and embody the future we are striving towards.

  • Member of the Year (Individual Award)

    This award goes to the Member of the Year-someone who has significantly impacted the DU Community as a whole, either through their work within our FSL community or through the work they do outside of it while still representing our FSL values.

  • Executive Board Member of the Year (Individual Award)

    Nominees for the Executive Board Member of the Year have served their council or chapter in an elected leadership position. With this elected leadership position, they have innovated, collaborated, built, restructured, developed, and challenged parts of our community to improve. They have furthered the goals of our chapters or councils and have represented our values consistently through their work and actions.

  • Chapter Advisor of the Year (Individual Award)

    This award is presented to a person who volunteers their time, outside of their full-time jobs, to help guide the undergraduate members of our organizations. Whether it is in the areas of leadership development, member accountability, finances, housing, or long hours during recruitment, our chapters and our community would not be a success without our volunteer advisors. For the past seven years, this advisor has displayed strong leadership skills, consistent involvement with the FSL community, and a priority of creating meaningful relationships with members.

  • Fraternity and Sorority Advisor's Student Leadership Award (Individual Award)

    The Fraternity and Sorority Advisor's Student Leadership Award recognizes an exceptional student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership within the fraternity and sorority community. This award celebrates a student who has shown exemplary dedication, initiative, and impact in their involvement with fraternity and sorority life. The recipient of this award exhibits strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire others, foster collaboration, and uphold the values of their organization and the fraternity and sorority community. Additionally, this student actively contributes to the growth and success of their fraternity or sorority through their involvement in various activities, events, and initiatives both inside and outside of the fraternity and sorority life. The recipient of this award serves as a role model for leadership excellence, making significant contributions to the fraternity and sorority community and leaving a lasting positive impact on their peers. Please note that this award is given as the discretion of the Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life and may not be awarded every year.
