Nominations open: Bornstein-Gómez & Somoza Rising Scholars Program
Deadline: October 20th | Nominations submitted online. LEARN MORE about IRISE and this Program.
We're now accepting nominations for undergraduates to join our 2022-2023 cohort for the Bornstein-Gómez & Somoza Rising Scholars program! This is a program for undergraduates, named after Miriam Bornstein-Gomez and Oscar Somoza who were among the first tenured, Latinx faculty at DU and beloved for their advocacy and mentorship of DU students. This program was piloted during spring of 2022 and we are fortunate to be able to continue to develop this program for current and future racial justice scholar. The BGS rising scholars program is a collaborative design through partnership between IRISE, the Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) Minor - and soon to be major! - and the Cultural Center. We designed this program to nurture and develop the skills, expertise and ultimate interest of undergraduate students pursuing interdisciplinary scholarly research related to racial inequality. With a particular focus on minoritized students, the goal of the program is to create a pipeline of DU undergraduates fully prepared to enter and be highly successful in terminal degree granting programs at DU and beyond as the next and innovative generation of interdisciplinary inequality scholars. We are now accepting nominations for undergraduates from faculty and students. Please help us spread the word and submit nominations for students you feel will benefit from this cohort! #students #racialjustice #researchers #firstgen #firstgenerationcollegestudent #interdisciplinaryresearch
Cybersecurity Awareness Month:
Ransomware attacks have significantly increased
There was a significant increase in ransomware attacks in 2021 and this year looks to be even worse. College and universities have felt the impact of ransomware and those attacks had significant operational and financial costs, according to a new report. The infographic is pretty sobering. Here's how you can help:
Pay attention to the emails you receive and think before you click.
Forward potential phishing emails using the 'Report Phish' button in Outlook.
Take the "IT Security Essentials" course provided by IT
Install antivirus software on your computer
(Crowdstrike is available for free to the University community on the resource section of MyDU).
