The Pulse: Weekly News & Happenings at DU

Week 1 Wisdom: Start Fresh

Welcome to a new quarter! This is a great time to start fresh and get situated for the rest of the quarter. Get yourself organized with your planners, calendars, binders, notebooks, or folders (paper or digital) for each class. Don’t forget to add your syllabi so you have them for easy reference.

Speaking of syllabi, now’s a great time to input all of your assignments and due dates for the whole quarter into your planner or calendar. You may also want to create a long list in chronological order of all the dates your professors gave you, this way you can cross assignments off as you go, and you’ll be able to see what’s coming up to help you prioritize as the quarter continues. Make sure you mark down what time things are due, especially for any online courses or submissions.

C+V Community Talk:
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Panel -- The Black Liberation Movement: Letters from a Birmingham Jail to Black Lives Matter

Thursday, January 14
11:00am - 12:00pm

The resistance to slavery and the Transatlantic Slave trade began at the very instant that Africans were first enslaved by colonizing forces from western Europe. The movement advancing the liberation of Black people has taken various forms over the centuries. From the everyday acts of resistance by enslaved people to the organized underground railroad; from the “Turn around Tuesday” to “Black Lives Matter”; generations of Black activists have staunchly advanced the ideal of human rights for all despite pervasive racism and systemic oppression.

In this panel we bring together three generations of Black scholars, thinkers and activists to reflect on the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jnr. and the continued struggle for Black Liberation.
