Welcome to the fifth week of the Diversity Summit. This week we continue our work to center voices from specific communities, by featuring a series of panels and discussions focusing in on experiences of those who identify as LGBTQ+ , women, neuro-diverse and those who experience disability, veterans, and those in recovery. We will also feature a panel on religious inclusivity. These are not caucuses, but rather center the lived experiences of these specific communities to bring to light both unique and intersectional knowledge. We call these our Critical Conversations.
Here is a snapshot of this week’s Critical Conversations: Wednesday February 17th (4:00pm-5:30pm) Critical Conversations: Veterans. You can register here.
DU Research & Scholarship Virtual Showcase: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Registration for the 2021 Research and Scholarship Showcase is NOW OPEN! The Research Showcase will be completely virtual on our new website and over Zoom. All students interested in participating in this year's Showcase will be asked to provide their project information and abstract to be available for viewing on the website. If interested, students can opt into presenting via Zoom. If choosing to present, we ask that students prepare a visual and upload it in the registration form. Students at any research stage may present their work (you do not need to have completed research to present) at the Showcase.
Steering Committee & Black Community Advisory Board
In an effort to confront the systemic and institutional exclusion of Black people at DU, the University will establish a Black Community Advisory Board, a board that will provide input and recommendations to Chancellor Haefner and University leadership about issues, policies, and actions that affect DU’s Black community on campus. As the first step in establishing the advisory board, the Black Community Experience Coordinator will convene a steering committee to help define the mission and vision of the board, its by-laws, and membership structure. The steering committee will also be comprised of Black students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. The work of the Steering Committee will last through the first week of March 2021 with the goal of naming a Black Community Advisory Board by April 2021. This time frame is set to ensure that the advisory board is established soon. Stay tuned for updates. If you are a Black student, faculty member, staff member, or community member and have interest in participating on the steering committee or being considered for the Black Community Advisory Board, please fill out the interest form.
The PEAK Leadership Experience is a day-long confluence of DU leaders, meant to bring together all corners of the DU community. We believe that leadership is for everyone, and we all can learn from each other. The event will be entirely virtual, with individual links and Zoom links for each session. Watch this space for updates, published schedules, and more!
Sessions will focus on one of the following topics: Professional, Experiential, Academic, Knowledge Based. Proposals are still open until January 22nd.
The Clarion is the official student newspaper of the University of Denver, serving as the community’s voice. Read some of the highlights from our publication this week:
We understand the majority of staff do not travel over spring break and maintain their normal work schedules. However, to best protect the community from the spread of COVID-19, we are requiring all DU community members who plan to return to campus after spring break to complete a spring break travel survey by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19. You can find the survey on your PioneerWeb homepage. If you do not complete the survey, we will assume your intention is to travel during the break, and you will be required to follow the return-to-campus protocol.
