RSO Finanace FAQs

What is our RSO's Base Allocation?
You can find the base allocation amount in the "Accounting Book" feature for your RSO on CrimsonConnect. This is the ONLY transaction that will be posted automatically, all other expenses/payments and incoming funds from supplemental allocations will need to be recorded by you, but the Accounting Book feature is a great tool for this!
*NOTE: the Accounting Book retains information from previous years, so if your group has used this tool in the past you may see details from previous fiscal cycles in the log.

How were Base Allocations determined this year?
Unlike in past years, this year's base allocations were determined based on the history of spending for your RSO from last year. Each RSO was allocated close to 30% or 50% of their total expenses from last year - 30% for groups who did not meet the Harm Prevention Requirement last year, 50% for those who did.

For RSOs with spending under a certain threshold or with no spending record from last year, an allocation of $300 (or $200 if the Harm Prevention Requirement was not met) was provided.

Base Allocations are NOT the only funds an organization is privy to. Supplemental funds can be requested throughout the year for upcoming events or other needs.

Are Base Allocations provided each quarter?
No - Base Allocations are ONLY provided at the start of the academic year.

Finance Forms & Where to Find them:

P-Card Check Out Request form, Supplemental Funding Application, and other RSO Finance Forms can all be access on the left-hand menu bar of the CrimsonConnect HomePage under "RSO Officer Quicklinks".

P-Card Check Out Request:
Remember you will not be permitted to check out a P-Card unless you have completed the Org 101 Finance Training and quiz first. P-Cards must be requested at least 3 business days in advance of the date you hope to use it.

Supplemental Funding Applications
As stated above, the "Base Allocation" is not the only money your RSO has for the year. RSOs are eligible to request supplemental funding as well, and you are not required to spend down the base allocation prior to requesting supplemental funds. However, if your RSO has a significant base allocation that you have not started to utilize, you will be asked to provide context as to why you're requesting additional funds. The clearer you are in your supplemental funding request application the faster it can be reviewed.

USG Judicial Introduction:

From Grant Williamson - USG Justice Primus:

My name is Grant Williamson, and I am serving as the Justice Primus for this years USG Judicial Branch! I am senior majoring in Political Science with minors in Socio-legal studies, Political Science and Leadership. I studied abroad in London last fall and am planning on attending law school for election/constitutional focused law.

I have seen USG develop so much in my time here at DU and want to share the Judicial branch as an additional resources for your RSO. Since RSO's are funded by USG through the student activity fee, any RSO is eligible to file a case for Court review. The Court provides a neutral point of view on issues and is made up of a panel of your peers. Eligible cases must show a specific by-law infraction of your RSO's Constitution (that you all should look over as group) and can cover issues such as member removals, officer election controversies, etc.

For more information on the Court or to submit a case inquiry form visit our website linked here. If you have any further questions please email usgjudicial@du.edu or my personal grant.williamson@du.edu

Org 101 Training - Recorded Sessions

Recorded sessions from the Virtual Org 101 Training are now available - we encourage you to bookmark the page and refer back to them as often as needed!

You can check them out here:

These can all be found on the Org 101 Training page in CrimsonConnect as well.

REMEMBER: Before funds can be spent or P-Cards can be checked out, the person checking out the P-Card must have reviewed the RSO Finances Session and passed the Org 101 Finance Training Quiz for this year.

RSO Handbook - Resources Beyond Org 101

Org 101 Training covers a ton of information, and there's so much more that we couldn't quite fit into the training sessions, so we've put it into the RSO Handbook.

The RSO Handbook can be accessed on CrimsonConnect in the RSO Officer Quicklinks section of the left-hand menu bar on the home page. It's provided in two different formats so you can navigate the option that's easiest for you:

We highly encourage you to take a look at the different sections of the Handbook, as many frequently asked questions are answered within the handbook pages.
