As always, we want to thank you for your dedication to mentorship of our Student Organizations on campus! The growth and development our students gain from participating in and leading RSOs could not happen without you.
For those who haven't met us yet, we are the Student Engagement Team within Student Affairs & Inclusive Excellence and in addition to the many other things our team does (advising Undergraduate and Graduate Student Government, adivsing the DU Programming Board, advising the Fraternity & Sorority Councils, planning and hosting some large traditions on campus like Discoveries After Dark, Countdown to Homecoming, and Senior Week), we are here to support our RSOs and you all as RSO Advisors.
Please do not hesitate to connect with our team if you aren't sure how to answer a question posed by your RSO Officers or you're not sure how to navigate a concern with a group you adivse. We can always be reached at studentengagement@du.edu

Sunday, September 7th - A Big Day for RSOs
Sunday, September 7th is a big day for RSO Officers - please help us help your RSOs by reminding them of these important events both taking place on the 7th:
ORG 101 | 11am-2pm | CCOM
First, from 11am - 2pm we'll be hosting Org 101 Training in-person in Community Commons. Details and an RSVP link have gone out throughout the summer to RSO Officers.
Who is required to attend?
Presidents, VPs, Treasurers are required to attend.
Presidents, VPs, Treasurers and anyone who will be making purchases on behalf of the RSO are required to attend one of the FINANCE sessions while attending the training.
All other RSO Officers are highly encouraged to attend the event.
RSO Advisors are also welcome to attend.
What will Org 101 Cover?
Details of the workshop schedule can be viewed within the event page.
What if an Officer won't be on campus on the 7th?
A make-up date with limited session offerings (Finance & Event Planning) will be held in the early evening of Thursday, September 11th.
Video recordings of some sessions (Finance & Event Planning) will also be made available for those who are studying abroad this fall and cannot attend the Sept. 7th or the Sept. 11th session.
A link to the video recordings will be shared as soon as they're available.
Involvement Fair | 5:30-7pm | Race St.
We plan to bring the Involvement Fair back to Race Street and Dimond Family Residential Village Green this year from 5:30-7pm, and having an accurate list of organizations who plan to participate will help us immensely in mapping out the logistics for the fair. RSO Officers have been provided this sign up link throughout the summer, please check in with your RSO Leaders to ensure they've signed up!
RSOs must be Re-Registered and approved in order to participate in the fair.
Advisors are welcome to attend the fair, but the goal really is that incoming students get a chance to interact with their peers at this event.
Resources to Bookmark:
Advisor Hub
We've compiled a handful of resources that you may find helpful as an RSO advisor and put them in one place.
RSO Handbook:
Org 101 Training covers a ton of information, and there's so much more that we couldn't quite fit into the training sessions, so we've put it into the RSO Handbook.
We highly encourage you to take a look at the different sections of the Handbook, as many frequently asked questions are answered within the handbook pages.
One of our goals this year is to create an Advisor Version of this handbook with tips and tricks for advising throughout.
RSO Finanace FAQs & Reminders
Base Allocation Information:
Each year USG provides fully re-registered RSOs with a "Base Allocation" - free funds that don't need to be requested first.
RSO Officers will be able to find the base allocation amount they'll be provided in the "Accounting Book" feature for the RSO on CrimsonConnect prior to Org 101 Training, and USG Finance Chair will also email RSO Presidents & Treasurers with this information.
The Accounting Book Feature:
End of Year "sweeps" and these one-time Base Allocations are the ONLY transactions that will be posted by our team to the CrimsonConnect Accounting Book. All other expenses/payments and incoming funds from supplemental allocations will need to be recorded by the RSO Officers (we recommend this be the role of the Treasurer).
The Accounting Book DOES NOT pull data from any University Finance Management systems.
*NOTE: the Accounting Book retains information from previous years, so they may see details from previous fiscal cycles in the log - they should refer to the Total Balance cell to see what's in the account.
How will Base Allocations be determined this year?
Like last year, this year's base allocations will be determined based on the history of spending for each RSO from last year. Each RSO will be allocated close to 50% of their total actual expenses from last year if they submitted their Re-Registration materials on time. Groups who did not meet the re-registration deadline will NOT be provided a base allocation, but will be elligible for supplemental funding once the group is fully approved for the year.
Where can my RSO access necessary finance forms?
The Supplemental Funding Application, P-Card Check Out Request form, P-Card Return & Receipt Submission form, Amazon & Staples Order Form, and Deposit Form can all be accessed on the left-hand menu bar of the CrimsonConnect HomePage under "RSO Officer Quicklinks".
Some Reminders about P-Cards & Business Account Orders:
Remember RSOs should NOT use their Advisor's departmental P-Card even if you have one. They MUST check out an RSO P-Card through our process. Students will not be permitted to check out a P-Card until they have completed the Org 101 Finance Training and quiz first. P-Cards must be requested at least 3 business days in advance of the date the purchase will be made.
RSOs must use the Amazon & Staple order form for RSOs if purchasing form one of these vendors, they cannot use their advisor's Amazon or Staples business account, as those are connected to the advisor's departmental p-card. If an RSO you advise asks you to place an Amazon or Staples purchase for them, please re-direct them to the order form for RSOs.
We require RSOs to make purchases through the RSO processes rather than their Advisor's p-cards or business accounts so we can ensure the group has the proper funds in their account prior to purchasing and that the purchase is properly reconciled to their RSO FOAP.
