We love this time of year! In addition to Halloween, we invite you to learn about some of the many celebrations and festivals happening around the world and on campus this time of year.

As members of a diverse community, all DU community members are expected to uphold the values of integrity, respect and responsibility. The University encourages everyone to:
Be thoughtful and informed when choosing costumes, decorations and party themes. Easy and “funny” aren’t the only or best criteria for a good time.
Beyond impact on others, consider yourself as well: "Would I want friends, family, and/or a potential employer to see me like this on social media?"
Instead, showcase your creativity by avoiding representations that reduce cultures or peoples to jokes, caricatures or stereotypes.
Be respectful. Remember the phrase, "The way they dress does not mean yes.” Someone’s costume does not indicate their consent.
Plan ahead. Set a drink limit beforehand, and make sure you have a safe way home.
Celebrate together. Stay with the same group of friends the whole time.
Eat (more than sweets) and stay hydrated before and while drinking.
Don’t mix alcohol and other drugs, as combinations can be dangerous.
Remember COVID? It hasn’t left town and the flu is coming soon. Stay home if you feel like you have a cold or an onset of allergies. Get tested. Wash your hands regularly. Don’t share food or drinks. And get your booster and flu shot; campus clinic info at www.du.edu/public-health
It is never the fault of the survivor/victim if someone experiences harm, no matter what they are wearing, drinking, or where they are or who they are with. There are resources and supports available on campus if you or someone you know has experienced gender-based violence. Contact CAPE for free and confidential supports at cape@du.edu or www.du.edu/cape
While enjoying the season’s festivities, remember, at DU we look out for each other. That means being aware of our situation and interrupting harmful jokes, attitudes, and actions before they escalate and calling for help when needed.
And if you or others need help: In emergencies call 9-1-1 and then Campus Safety (303.871.3456). Request a safety escort at 303.871.2334. And report, discrimination and harassment at www.du.edu/equalopportunity
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Center for Advocacy, Prevention, and Empowerment (CAPE) will be hosting a student survivor-activist space on Wednesday, October 26th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. This event will be an opportunity for student survivors and supporters to share experiences, connect with community, and take a collective stand against gender-based violence.

Study abroad drop-in peer advising is available Monday-Friday 10-11am and 2-4pm through week 10 this fall. We highly recommend getting all your study abroad advising done during the fall quarter. Waiting until winter quarter can be very stressful and limit your program options.
The early application deadline is December 1 and is recommended for all programs with a limited and medium chance of acceptance (see programs brochure for your programs rating).
Note that a few programs require that you make and appointment and meet with a program advisor before the deadline.
The Clarion is the official student newspaper of the University of Denver, serving as the community’s voice. Read some of the highlights from our publication this week:
The 4-D Student Experience team is partnering with CiBiC on some focus groups about the student experience here at DU, which students can get a $25 gift card for participating in.
The Office of Student Employment is looking to hire a communications assistant to help with our office communications strategy, which includes email, social media, flyers, and other marketing. We want to get the word out on campus about student employment, and we want your help doing it! This is a great position for an entrepreneurial student who cares about equitable access to information and coming up with fun, creative ideas.
