As we approach the end of the fall quarter, we wish you the best as you finish the term and want to share an important reminder about your safety and well-being.
Whether you're traveling, camping, exploring Colorado or spending time away from campus, we encourage you to keep your friends and family informed of your plans. Staying connected is an important part of looking out for yourself and each other.
This is especially important given the requirements of a new Colorado law that establishes specific procedures that universities must follow when the university receives a report from someone concerned about a student's whereabouts or not being able to contact a student. If someone contacts the University of Denver under these circumstances, the University is required to take certain steps to locate you as quickly as possible.
Specifically, the University’s response may include calling, texting, and emailing you, contacting your professor(s), and talking to your friends. For residential students, this will also include going to your room to see if you are there and talking with your roommate(s), floormates, and other friends. If you cannot be located within six (6) hours of these reported concerns, the University is required to call your emergency contact and to notify law enforcement.
If you do plan to travel, camp, or explore Colorado, please have proactive conversations with your family members and friends to let them know of your plans, discuss how often you plan to check in while away, and identify what you each will do if you are not able to be in contact.
If you are interested in updating your "Missing Person Contact" information, please take the following actions:
Go to your "My Person Profile" in my4D located under the Student Tools.
Navigate to the "My Profile" page, click the Personal Information box. View, edit, and update your general information records.
Go to the Personal Information landing page, go to the Emergency Contact section and on the right, click "Add New".
From the "Relationship" drop-down box, select the "Missing Person Notification" option. Once you have completed the form, click "Add" at the bottom of the form.
If you have immediate safety concerns for yourself or another student, please call the Department of Campus Safety at 303-871-2334.
