About Fraternity & Sorority Life

The Office of Student Engagement believes membership in Fraternity & Sorority Life on campus provides undergraduates and alumni with tremendous, values-based opportunities for lifelong friendship, leadership development, scholarship enhancement and social interaction. Our fraternity and sorority students are scholars, athletes, and campus leaders; they are positively contributing to and benefiting from the University of Denver collegiate experience. Fraternity & Sorority Life strives to cultivate chapters who live their values: to promote individual member growth and development, to engage alumni and external partners, and to prepare members to become responsible global citizens.

Around 17% of DU undergraduate students are involved with fraternities and sororities, and many of those students also hold positions in the Undergraduate Student Government, the University of Denver Programs Board (DUPB), Student Media Board, and many other organizations across campus.

Councils

We currently have 19 recognized active organizations across three active governing councils focused on creating a community of care and support through leading, learning, and service.

INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL (IFC)

The DU Interfraternity Council believes fraternity is an inherently positive part of the University community. Realizing the need to strengthen the fraternity community; to secure a greater unity in their common aim and objectives; effectively regulate the affairs of the fraternities which are members of IFC; and strive to promote a positive fraternity life image, the IFC serves, supports, educates, and advises their fellow fraternity members and the greater DU community. The DU IFC was founded in 1889, and serves as the Governing Body for DU's 7 IFC Fraternities:

MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL (MGC)

The Multicultural Greek Council at the University of Denver strives to promote higher education, provide community services, enhance leadership, and serve as a liaison between the Multicultural Greek Council, the university student body, and administration, thereby improving the campus environment. The DU MGC serves as the Governing Body for DU's 4 (soon to be five) MGC Fraternities and Sororities:

Each MGC chapter has an independent and unique membership selection process, thus the best way to gain information about a chapter's recruitment/intake process is to contact the chapter directly or engage with community programs hosted by the council.

To learn about chapter specific intake/recruitment opportunities, visit each chapter's local social media account (linked below), or contact the MGC Advisor, Christopher Miofsky at christopher.miofsky@du.edu.

PANHELLENIC COUNCIL (PHA)

The DU Panhellenic Association is the governing body for the member organizations of the National Panhellenic Conference. The PHA promotes excellence in academics, community service, campus involvement, and sisterhood. They are committed to the vision of creating women of excellence as outlined in the Panhellenic Creed. The DU Panhellenic serves as the Governing Body for DU's 6 PHA Sororities:

NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL (NPHC)

The National Pan-Hellenic Council is a collaborative organization of nine historically Black/African American fraternities and sororities. NPHC organizations work toward unanimity of though and action as far as possible in the conduct of collegiate fraternities and sororities. The primary purpose of NPHC is camaraderie, academic excellence, and service to the community.

While the NPHC includes nine organizations, often referred to as "The Divine Nine," DU's NPHC organizations are currently dormant with the exception of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. All nine NPHC organizations are listed. Interest in organizations should be shared with the Office of Student Engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life as there is interest in many of these groups hosting active chapters at DU.
