Spring 2021 - Week 5
Today is DENIM DAY!
Celebrated every year on the last Wednesday of April, Denim Day started as a campaign against sexual assault apologists. In the summer of 1998 in Italy, an 18-year-old girl was raped by her 45-year-old driving instructor. One year later, the perpetrator was released after the court overturned his sentence. He appealed that the girl had had ‘consensual’ sex with him because she was wearing tight jeans that could have only been taken off with her help. The next day, Italian women showed up in jeans to their workplaces as a way to protest the absurdity of the overturned sentence.
University Libraries and the Office of the Provost present a lecture with Safiya Umoja Noble, author of "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism." A Q&A session, moderated by Provost Mary Clark, will follow.

Are you interested in getting ahead on your foreign language requirement? Does completing a Spanish course in fewer than 10 weeks--while still having Fridays off--sound appealing? Do you like the idea of a more relaxed schedule without as many other courses + smaller class sizes?
If any of these apply to you, consider signing up for Span 1001, 1002, or 1003 over the summer! All 3 courses are offered entirely online, 6/21-8/4, 9-10:30am MTWR with at least 2 Zoom sessions per week. Registration is currently open!
Please contact First-year Spanish Program Coordinator Stefan DuBois with any questions.
